Joining up means you can write your own stories and comment on other peoples. Straight after you sign up, you will receive an email with a password. You have to go and collect it, and then log in. If you simply want to sign up to get he email alerts, you still have to log in. Once you are logged in, there is a big fat "subscribe" button in the left hand column thata way
