Tip #2 Eat local produce that's in season

For Tip #2 I am going to be talking about the vegies and fruit that you buy in the supermarket.

Reduce your carbon emissions!
One really big way that you can reduce your contribution to carbon emissions is to make sure that the fruit and vegies you are buying have not been grown in the USA or other far away countries.

Stamp out ironing

Ironing creases out of things uses power, takes time and is tedious.
These 10 Top Ironing Tips will make it simpler and more pleasant:
1.Never iron anything that doesn’t need to be ironed. Towels and sheets don’t need ironing, simply roll tightly and put away.

Vinegar tips!

Ants
Prevent ants and other insects crossing your door and/or windowsills, by 'pouring' vinegar across the opening sill.

Keep flowers fresh
Keep cut flowers fresh longer by adding two tablespoons of vinegar and one tablespoon of sugar to each quart of water.

Compost Critic has a go at Gardening with Bokashi

I've finally got around to dealing with the organic matter that has been fermenting away in the lovely bokashi bin supplied to me by Todae for our EarthMums road test. Mmmm. Delicious ...

Thank god you're here

Hey caito just wanted to give you a pat on the back for starting this up and getting so many positive results. It's really great that someone is actually doing instead of talking for a change (maybe I'm just bitter because I've been going to the same Uni for 10 years and Wholefoods hasn't changed a thing- not even the menu! There's only so much lentil dahl one can take).

So well done and hope to see you looking back on your achievements on "Enough Rope" some day...

Carbon tax / green star results

Well, the results are in, and it seems you guys would like both a green star system for supermarkets AND a carbon tax. 24% supported both, and the rest were evenly spread between the tax and the stars.

The Great Global Warming Swindle

When will these skeptics let up?

The ABC plans to broadcast "The Great Global Warming Swindle" today (12th July). Directed by Martin Durkin, (who, interestingly, also directed a 1998 documentary arguing that silicone breast implants are beneficial to women's health), it presents the assertions of a bunch of well-known climate change skeptics that global warming is not significant and not due to human activity. Skeptics have been derailing the progress of reduction in atmospheric greenhouse gasses for long enough and I am adverse to giving them any more attention, but the screening of this program may stimulate some public discussion. In anticipation of this, the Federation of Australian Scientific and Technological Societies (FASTS) has put together a collection of websites that address the claims made in the program and critically evaluates the scientific merit of those claims.
